MQG - MACQUARIE GROUP LTD - down $3.23, or 2.6 per cent, to $121.70

Macquarie Group stocks slumped as the investment bank announced chief executive Nicholas Moore is handing over the leadership to Shemara Wikramanayake.

NEC - NINE ENTERTAINMENT - down 26 cents, or 10.3 per cent, to $2.26

FXJ - FAIRFAX MEDIA LTD - up 6.5 cents, or 8.4 per cent, to 83.5 cents

The listed media sector got a shake up with news Nine Entertainment will acquire Fairfax Media in a $2.2 billion cash-and-shares deal.

NCM - NEWCREST MINING - up 92 cents, or 4.6 per cent, to $20.92

NST - NORTHERN STAR - up 30 cents, or 4.3 per cent, to $7.36

EVN - EVOLUTION MINING LTD - up 7 cents, or 2.4 per cent, to $3.04

Gold stocks gained ground as Newcrest Mining reported a 15 per cent bounce in fourth-quarter gold output.

FMG - FORTESCUE METALS GROUP - down 17 cents, or 3.7 per cent, to $4.39

The world's number four iron ore miner, Fortescue Metals, shipped 46.5 million tonnes in the June quarter compared with 44.7 million tonnes a year ago, the company said on Thursday.
