Melbourne tram derails for third time
A wayward tram which ploughed into a Melbourne front yard after a crash with a car has a history of derailment.
Not once, but three times since 2013 the vehicle has left the tracks, Yarra Trams confirmed on Monday.
Twenty-one people needed medical treatment after the 109 tram speared into a yard at Kew on Sunday after colliding with a car.
Seven people, aged in their 60s and 70s, were taken to hospitals with various injuries including head pain, shoulder and back soreness.
"We're thankful no one was seriously injured in Sunday's incident," a Yarra Trams spokeswoman said on Monday.
The same tram has been involved in two other derailments since 2013, the operator confirmed.
In the past year, there has been an average of three vehicle and tram collisions each day.
The world's largest tram network shares three-quarters of its routes with other road users.
