Early gains fizzle as ASX finishes flat

The Australian share market has broken through a key resistance level to hit a fresh two-month high, but then couldn't hold on to any of its gains.

After being up as much as 0.6 per cent to 7,021.1 in the first 30 minutes of trading on Thursday, the S&P/ASX200 faded throughout the day. It finished down one point, or 0.01 per cent, to 6974.9.

The broader All Ordinaries closed up 4.6 points to 7,207.5, a 0.06 per cent rise.

The Australian dollar was buying 69.65 US cents, from 69.32 US cents on Wednesday.
