Coles spin-off chief to head Officeworks

Wesfarmers has appointed a new managing director to run office supplies business Officeworks.

The Perth-based conglomerate has tapped Sarah Hunter, who is currently overseeing the business' spin-off of supermarket Coles, to take over from Mark Ward.

Mr Ward is stepping down to become a senior Wesfarmers advisor.

Wesfarmers manager director Rob Scott said in a statement Thursday that Ms Hunter had been an important player in turning around Coles' financial fortunes.

She has been with the company for more than eight years, previously leading the supermarkets' Victorian state operations with sales of $8 billion and approximately 24,000 team members.

Ms Hunter also had a decade-long stint in the UK where she was strategy and finance director from 2004 to 2006 for Gatwick Airport.
