What is Big Dry Friday?
In 2018, Morgans launched its first 'Big Dry Friday' with the aim of creating awareness of the plight that many regional and rural Australians were facing at the hands of one of our most severe droughts.
A year later, the situation remained even more devastating, compounded by further adverse weather conditions and a real threat of bush fires in tinder dry areas.
So on Friday 6 December 2019, we again invited all Australians to reflect on the plight of our farmers and make a small contribution to their welfare. A donation could be an amount you would spend on a few Friday drinks, a meal, or a sporting match for example.
The Morgans Foundation and The Goldburg Family Foundation matched dollar-for-dollar all funds raised (capped at $350,000). The Morgans Institutional Team donated its commission on Friday 6 December to the campaign.
All proceeds were donated to Rural Aid, which is an Australian charity dedicated to supporting rural communities. This decision was made following consultation with farmers who said that gift cards would be highly valued and appreciated.
