Big Dry Friday 2022

Big Dry Friday 2022

Big Dry Friday is a day to recognise the importance of rural and regional Australia, to connect city and country and to provide support where it's needed most.

The concept is simple…. On a Friday, once a year, city people forego (or match) what they might spend on a nice lunch or drinks and donate it to the cause.

Over the past four years we have raised more than $3.4 million with the help of Morgans clients, staff and business partners across Australia and distributed these funds to rural charities assisting with education, mental health and financial hardship.

This year we maintain our focus on creating long-term benefits for rural Australia. View our beneficiaries below.

Rural Aid is one of Australia's largest rural charities, providing financial assistance, water and counselling to farmers in need.

Big Dry Friday – How it began

In 2018, Morgans launched its first 'Big Dry Friday' with the aim of creating awareness of the plight that many regional and rural Australians were facing at the hands of one of our most severe droughts.

The Morgans network – including clients, friends and business partners – were invited to donate an amount they would spend on a few Friday drinks, a meal, or a sporting match for example. Donations reached $775,000 in 2018, with the help of the Morgans Foundation and the Morgans Institutional Desk, which donated its commission on the day.

A year later, in 2019 the situation remained even more devastating, compounded by further adverse weather conditions and bush fires in tinder dry areas. The Morgans Foundation and The Goldburg Family Foundation matched dollar-for-dollar all funds raised (capped at $350,000) and the Morgans Institutional Team again donated its commission on the day, helping the 2019 campaign reach a total of $1.3 million.

In 2020, during a challenging year for many as COVID19 took hold, we marked BDF with a smaller event – Little Dry Friday. We raised more than $365,000 thanks to generous donations. All proceeds were donated to rural charity Rural Aid, which dispersed 100% of the funds via gift cards to farmers suffering financial hardship.

In light of the drought easing in 2021, we changed our focus to creating long-term benefits for rural Australia – supporting education, mental health and wellbeing. We raised more than $1 million which was dispersed to six charities – Schools Plus, Rural Aid, Country Education Foundation, Outback Futures, RNA Foundation and Marcus Oldham. This year we maintain our focus and will be raising funds for Schools Plus, Rural Aid and Outback Futures.
